Marc Sheard, CFA

Portfolio Manager, Equities

Marc Sheard joined VCIM in April 2021 as a Portfolio Manager and Head of Equities. Marc has over 15 years of financial industry experience including 10 years as a Portfolio Manager working on global equity portfolios, and over two years as an Analyst on a fixed income portfolio. At VCIM, he provides oversight to each of the public equity portfolios. Prior to VCIM, Marc spent over eight years at British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), the BC Pension Fund, where he focused on global equities, with an initial emphasis on Asian and Europe equities and eventually adding US equities. While at BCI, Marc also ran the Public Markets co-op program, founded and acted as President for an internal Toastmasters Club, and led a bi-weekly Investment Club that catered to non-investment professionals at BCI with a desire to improve their knowledge of investing.

Marc earned his Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree from McMaster University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He has volunteered for a number of charities over the years including Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers, Junior Achievers and Special Olympics.

Marc is an avid hiker and in his spare time can be found in the outdoors with his (awesome) wife and two kids exploring the surrounding area. He is also a supporter of several organizations dedicated to environmental and wildlife preservation. It was in part due to this passion for a greener future that Marc made the move to Vancity to align his personal and career values.

“My philosophy revolves around investing in companies with growing competitive advantages that are run by talented management teams and purchasing them at a discount to intrinsic value. Companies with this profile are able to compound cash flows at a rapid rate and have opportunities to reinvest this money back into the business at high incremental returns.”
